About the Project

Birmingham Business School welcomes PhD students who are interested in obtaining an ESRC PhD Studentship. An ESRC PhD Studentship covers Home/UK tuition fees and provides an annual stipend of approximately £15,560. There are two types of Studentship available. A +3 award covers tuition fees and provides an annual stipend for three years of PhD study. Typically, this route is open to students who already hold a masters degree with ESRC recognised research training. Alternatively, a 1+3 award is similar but also covers tuition fees and an annual stipend for a year of masters study at Birmingham on the MA Social Research degree, an ESRC recognised masters degree. Further details of the studentships are available here and eligibility criteria are available here.

Home/UK and International students are eligible to apply, although there is a cap on the number of International studentships available. To be classed as a Home/UK student, applicants must either:

• Be a UK national (and meet residency requirements), or
• Have settled status, or

• Have indefinite leave to remain or enter.
