Project Description:

The Fun Toolkit (Read et al. 2005) is a suite of child friendly instruments that can be used to measure user experience with children. The tools are used before and after children engage with IT products and services and have been used in industrial and academic settings for over ten years. This toolkit, and other UX tools that the ChiCI team have developed can be seen at (https://chici.org/ux-playbook/) The current PhD project is intended to reflect on what is already known, in order to explore and develop new tools and instruments for measuring and understanding fun in myriad forms, with children across different ages and with a wide range of technologies. Applicants will require a design mindset, attention to detail in empirical work and a strong empathy with children, children’s locations, and children’s technology. The project will require high levels of organisation, effective engagement with schools and adherence to the ChiCI ideologies of inclusive informed participation of children in research activities.
