Examining the mechanical behaviour of human skin under loading

About the Project

This project will build on previous research within the department to measure the mechanical response of human skin and near-surface human tissue systems to normal and shear loading. It will combine imaging and strain measurement techniques, with mechanical and tribological experiments to better understand how the different skin layers and properties combine to affect the behaviour of human skin under loading, in different environmental conditions. The results of the study can be applied to many products and industries, e.g. healthcare, cosmetic, consumer goods.

Funding Notes

1st or 2:1 degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or other Relevant Discipline.
