Fabrications and strength analysis of green composites hosting plastic wastes

Project Description

The aim of this project is to develop new understandings on utilising domestic plastic wastes as ingredients in manufacturing new structural composites. The research will involve advanced photonic stress sensing methodology to understand on the ability of the newly developed composites to transmit forces at micro and macro scales under process loading environments. In particular, the strength of such composites to resist fracture will be studied in detail experimentally. Based on this, user-friendly models will be developed to help scientists and engineers to design new green composites most optimally in terms of the characteristics of the matrix and the embedded plastic wastes and their functionalities for engineering applications.

Funding Notes

UK/EU – EPSRC Studentship for 3.5 years paying academic fees and maintenance. UK applicants are eligible for a full award paying tuition fees and maintenance. EU applicants are eligible for Fees only, except in exceptional circumstances, or where residency has been established for more than 3 years prior to the start of the course.  Funding is awarded on a competitive basis.
