Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
About the Project
The University of Hull are inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for an exciting full-time, self-funded MSc studentship.
Alongside the research undertaken for an MSc, the student will gain experience of collaborating with professional academy football staff and players. The student will also be afforded the opportunity to collect academy match-play data with two to three UK professional soccer academies as part of their studies. In addition to this, it is assumed that the successful student will also enrol on BASES Supervised Experience and work toward accreditation status. The MSc will allow the student to gain experience in the practical application of:
• Using Catapult Sports MEMs devices and data interpretation using OpenField software.
• Differential and session RPE.
• Endzone telescopic camera to capture video footage for use with Hudl SportsCode.
• Estimating player maturity status to categorise players.
Other tasks will include:
• Attend all academy meetings when required/appropriate.
• Work closely with support staff to help ensure all Sport Science & Medicine aspects of player reviews are completed to the relevant standard.
• Attend and deliver (when appropriate and based on expertise) CPD sessions as and when required by senior club staff.
To ensure the best outcome for both the student, the University, and the partner football clubs, we seek an individual with the following qualities:
• An enquiring mind and a willingness to search for the ‘why’ in a problem.
• Attention to detail.
• Willingness to be involved with data collection activities outside of ‘normal’ hours and on weekends.
• Ability to adapt to the constantly changing environment of professional football.
• Ability to work independently and sometimes assist Sport Science and Medicine staff when appropriate.
• Work well as a member of a team.
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
• Dedicated to self-improvement and personal development.
• Good I.T. and presentation skills.
How to Apply
This studentship will start on 24th June 2019.
It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have or is expected to achieve (2019 summer graduates welcome to apply) a 1st or 2.1 undergraduate degree in sport and exercise science, sport coaching, or related discipline. Experience working in a sport science or strength and conditioning capacity is desirable but not essential. In addition, a willingness to work toward accreditation (such as BASES, UKSCA or ISPAS) is desirable.
