Faculty of Business and Law - Law Studentship

Introduction

Faculty of Business and Law at the University of the West of England in Bristol invites applications for a fully funded PhD studentship in Law.

Proposed doctoral projects may be specific to a particular area of law or may be cross-disciplinary.

About the studentship

The studentships reflect ongoing commitment of the Faculty of Business and Law at UWE Bristol to the development of its doctoral programmes.

The Faculty’s distinctiveness in research and scholarship comes from its applied nature, and a focus on real-world, current issues for organisations and society. We have direct intention of helping to resolve pressing challenges, including improving organisational practices and behaviours and understanding systems and structures, whilst taking an inclusive approach.

Prospective student will be based in the Department of Law, which is home to several multidisciplinary research groups.

Funding

The studentship is available from 1 October 2022 for a period of three years, subject to satisfactory progress, and includes a tax-exempt stipend, which is currently £16,602 per annum. 

In addition, full-time home/international tuition fees will be covered for up to three years. 

As part of the studentship, the prospective students will be expected to perform some teaching duties in their subject area, and deliver two hours of teaching-related tasks a week in the first and third year of studies, and four hours in the second year. This forms part of the terms and conditions of the studentship and there is no additional payment for it.

Eligibility

Applicants must have at least 2:1 degree in law or cognate area, and ideally Masters degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%, UK grading scale or international equivalent). 

A recognised English language qualification is required. IELTS score of 7.0 overall, or equivalent.

• Prepare your research proposal. This should ideally happen in consultation with your potential supervisor. In the first instance you should contact a potential supervisor with initial ideas to confirm they are willing to support your application.

• Supporting documentation: you will need to upload your research proposal, all your degree certificates and transcripts and your proof of English language proficiency as attachments to your application so please have these available when you complete the application form.
