Overview:
We are looking for an enthusiastic top class PhD student to be part of the UK battery revolution and work on Li-ion battery degradation project funded by the Faraday institution. The project is multidisciplinary brining practical experimental skills of battery manufacturing and testing (electrochemistry), data analysis, mathematical modelling and machine learning to evaluate the ability of higher harmonics as diagnostic tools for Li-ion batteries electrodes irreversibilities, ageing and prediction tool for their remaining life.

The project aims to improve the understanding of the irreversible processes in batteries by applying large AC current and monitor voltage reposne beyond linearity to study the non-linear processes thourgh Fourier transformation (using higher harmonics analysis).

Eligibility Criteria:
1st or 2:1 Hons degree in Engineering, Math or Chemistry.

Experience with research, batteries, higher harmonics analysis, machine learning or electrochemistry is desirable.

UK/EU who meet EPSRC studentship eligibility criteria. e.g. EU applicants are only eligible for a full award (fees and stipend) if they have 3 years prior residency in the UK (including for academic study) otherwise they only eligible for partial award which only covers 100% fees at the UK/EU rate (no stipend).

Funding Notes

100% of UK/EU tuition fees and an enhanced stipend over and above the standard EPSRC offer. The total annual stipend is approximately £20,000 (full award) plus an additional £7,000 annually to cover training and travel costs. Recipients will have access to multiple networking opportunities, industry visits, mentorship, internships, as well as quality experiences that will further develop knowledge, skills, and aspirations.
