Fibre optic based polymerisation shrinkage profile measurement of photo/chemical cured materials

Project Description

This project will focus on the measurement of polymerisation shrinkage profile of photo and chemical cured resin materials using optical fibre sensors. Particular focus will be of the device development using an OEM spectral measurement technique and developing methods for 2D profiling of strain/temperature using optical fibre sensors by adopting integration of differences methods. This project will also look into ways to minimise the cost of sensor head and novel strain transfer mechanisms to be developed to enable the re-use of the sensor.

The project is conducted in collaboration with UNSW and industry partners and is funded by the Australian Government CRC-Projects scheme.

The PhD scholarship includes: i) a tax free a living stipend of AUD 28,092 per year for 3 years (ii) potential top-up scholarship of AUD 5,000 for high-achieving students (tax free).

Funding Notes

Selection criteria:
1. An Honours degree or a Masters degree in electrical/electronics engineering/Physics/Applied Physics, or related fields;
2. Experience in electronic instrumentation and sensing.
3. Good background in optical fibres and sensors
4. Good communication, interpersonal, and team-work skills;
5. Ability to start as soon as possible.
