About the Project

Digital financial technologies (Fintech) have revolutionised credit markets by allowing consumers to borrow through online marketplaces. Fintech lenders now account for 30% of lending and have disrupted credit card and mortgage markets. This project first explores the forces behind the rapid growth of the Fintech sector. Was this attributable to the Financial Crisis and the growth of mistrust in banks? It will then study whether Fintech lenders pose a competitive threat to banks by taking market share and potentially forcing banks to lend to riskier customers thereby destabilising the banking industry.
