Fluid flows with phase transitions

Project Description

The School of Mathematics, University of Birmingham, is seeking a Graduate Student for the studies of fluid dynamical problems with phase transitions relevant to the process of additive manufacturing (3D printing). The studies will require the understanding of complex flows with a variety of ’additional’ physical effects (temperature gradient, melting, solidification, etc) and their theoretical and computational modelling. The project is linked to a £5M EPSRC-funded Programme Grant aimed at enabling a new generation of additive manufacturing processes and gives an opportunity to interact with experimentalists and theoreticians working on different aspects of this complex technology. The project involves a considerable degree of flexibility in terms of choosing the specific direction of research and requires a motivated person interested in pursuing a research career.
