Four-year EngD scholarship with the National Composites Centre: Recyclate technology development

Project Description

Faculty/School/Department:
Faculty of Engineering (University of Bristol)

Location:
National Composites Centre, Bristol (BS16 7FS)

Salary/stipend:
£20,450 p.a.

Composite Materials enable more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to power generation through to transportation. In order to improve the sustainability of the materials themselves, a better connected end-of-life supply chain and improvements to end-of-life technologies are required. This project seeks to focus on recycling, with emphasis towards the prevention of down-cycling. The aim is to produce a recyclate materials passport and to optimise reprocessing techniques to minimise or eliminate material property knock-down effects.

In the first 12 months, the research work is likely to include the following activities:

• Review update of the recycling landscape
• Investigation of thermoplastic recovery technologies
• Validation of the proprietary HiPerDiF fibre alignment process, a technology patented by the University of Bristol which allows recovering much of the mechanical properties of recycled fibres.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications are considered as soon as they are received, and the position will be allocated as soon as a suitable candidate is found.

How to apply: If you are interested in applying for this EngD project please send your CV, covering letter and academic transcript to
