From Home Nurses to Specialist Practitioners: a Social, Educational and Political History of District Nursing in Liverpool


Project Description

Liverpool has a significant history associated with district nursing. This PhD study will focus on the collection of documented evidence, primary and archival sources of district nursing in Liverpool, including oral histories from district nurses, to construct a comprehensive history of the profession including the impact of social, educational and political milestones in its development across the city. Secondary sources from private collections from district nurses will be collected as part of the study.

1.A 1,000 word statement outlining your proposed PhD research, and any relevant experience in the field.
2.Your CV (maximum two pages) indicating the names of two academic referees.

Please clearly state that you are applying for the Anniversary Studentship in the subject heading as well as the text of your email.

Funding Notes

Are you eligible?



Value: Up to £20,353 per year

If you are awarded a fully-funded PhD scholarship, you could receive:
•annual fees: £4,300
•a contribution towards running costs: £1,500 per year
•an annual stipend: £14,553

The scheme is available to Home/European Union students with a first degree at 2:1 or above in a relevant area. Applicants with masters level qualifications are preferred. We will interview shortlisted applicants.
