Physical inactivity is an important risk factor for the development of chronic disease. There is an urgent need to implement population-based strategies to increase physical activity, to reduce the burden of disease and improve quality of life.
Wellbeing SA – a South Australian health promotion agency – is developing and implementing a state-wide physical activity strategy and will invest in: 1) the implementation of a state-wide Walking Strategy and Action Plan; 2) the implementation of a state-wide physical activity communications campaign with a focus on walking; 3) The ongoing delivery of the 10,000 Steps program in South Australia; and 4) The implementation of a Physical Activity in Nature Action Plan.
The work by Wellbeing SA offers a unique opportunity to examine the impact of a multi-pronged state-wide health promotion program. As such, the aim of this PhD-project is to conduct a comprehensive and holistic evaluation of the Wellbeing SA state-wide physical activity health promotion program.
