About the Project

Significant literature has identified particular problems with women’s and girl’s access to asylum. The legal framework and case law on asylum and immigration in the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) or the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has rarely been subjected to a gendered analysis in order to explore the extent to which this important area of law is fit for purpose. PhD research proposals which examine the legal framework and selected judgments of either one of these two European courts or both particularly from a feminist legal methodology are particularly welcome. It is important for lawyers to ask questions which might be ignored, side-lined or overlooked in traditional legal analysis.

Funding Notes

This is a self-funded project; applicants will be expected to be able to pay their own tuition fees, or have access to a suitable third-party funding source. UK and EU applicants may be able to apply for a Doctoral Loan from Student Finance.
