About the Project

With necessary shifts away from fossil fuels, there remains an ongoing reliance on extraction of earth materials in proposed "sustainable transitions". What is the role of geology and geological knowledge in this transition, and how does geology as a discipline relate to the ethics of extraction? This project builds on existing interdisciplinary work with geologists and is situated at the intersections of philosophy and human geography. Using qualitative research approaches, the project aims to understand how ethics are understood and practiced within geology.
