Health Economics: Fully Funded KESS II PhD Scholarship: Modelling the impact of the Tenovus Cancer Care Mobile Cancer Support Units for supporting people with cancer in Wales

PhD Scholarship for UK or EU applicants in the field of: Health Economic modelling

Tenovus Cancer Care have three mobile cancer units. The intention is that through these mobile cancer units, patients can have their cancer treatment and support in a location closer to their home. Several thousands of patients have already utilised the units since provision commenced in 2009. The intent of the studentship is to assess the economic implications of the mobile cancer units and the possible benefits for patients and their families. In order to do this, it is anticipated that the student will be required to construct a simulation model (the nature of which will be determined by the data) to represent the mobile cancer units and therefore a good grasp of modelling software such as Simul8 and VBA for Excel (or similar) would be beneficial for the student. The project will be quantitative in nature and therefore only candidates with a strong mathematical/analytical background will be considered.

Scholarships are collaborative awards with external partners including SMEs and micro companies, as well as public and third sector organisations. The scholarship provides 3 years of funding with a 6 month period to complete the thesis. The achievement of a postgraduate skills development award, PSDA, is compulsory for each KESS II scholar and is based on a 60 credit award.

Eligibility
Candidates should have a 2.1 or above in their undergraduate degree and have, or be studying for a Master’s degree in Mathematics/Operational Research/Economics or a closely related subject. They should also be eligible for UK/EU Fees.
