Project Description

The PhD project aims to develop novel types of electrical machines for future transportation, e.g. electric vehicle and electric aircraft, by using the latest high temperature superconductors. Through the project, the PhD student will develop research and engineering skills in the field of electrical machine, as well as applied superconductivity. The project is ideal for engineering students who want to take an adventure to develop novel machine drives.

Funding Notes

Home/EU awards (3 years): Provides tuition fee, £1000 per year Training Support Grant and Stipend (£14.057 2015-6 rate).
Overseas awards (3 years): Provides tuition fee, £1000 per year Training Support Grant, but no stipend.

Applicants should have or expect to achieve at least an upper second class Honours degree, or equivalent qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Applicants should have a good background in electrical machinery or superconductivity.
