Project Description

Higher order analysis of chiral chasing populations.
Recently it has been shown experimentally that zebrafish patterning depends on a chiral chasing mechanism of cellular populations. Dr Woolley has provided a framework for understanding this patterning phenomena. However, his work has only focused on the linear analysis of the system. The student will be expected to extend the current theory to the weakly non-linear regime, and beyond, in order to answer the following questions:
• what pattern structures are available?
• what influence does the chirality of chasing have on pattern planform?
• how does angle influence pattern movement and directionality?
• can these insights be used to provide constraints on the network of interactions seen in the zebrafish?
