Curing cancer generally requires contributions by the immune system, but how to best stimulate this is currently unclear. An intriguing possibility is to rewire cancer cells into immunogenic fates. In principle, this can be achieved by innate immune signalling but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. In this project, we will use head and neck cancer to investigate how chromosomal instability and innate immunity cross-talk with radiotherapy. We will also exploit the fact that head and neck cancer can occur in the presence or absence of human papilloma virus (HPV) to investigate how HPV shapes innate immune responses.
Candidates must have, or be on track to receive, a First- or Upper Second- class Honours degree (or a Masters) in Biological Sciences and have experience in basic molecular biology techniques, and must have a basic knowledge of cancer biology. Ideally, candidates also have obtained, or are on their way to obtaining, a Master’s degree.
