About the Project

Understanding human grip is one of the most important factors in the design of many hand-held consumer products (e.g. tools, devices). This project is a continuation of previous work and will apply knowledge and understanding that has been developed in the field of human skin/surface friction.

The aim will be to further develop analytical models that predict frictional performance in different situations and develop and carry out new experiments to examine the performance of human grip. Integrated models will the be formed and applied to improve gripping performance in situations where this is critical (e.g. assistive technologies).
