About the Project

Are you interested in undertaking PhD study into dementia and frailty? An exciting opportunity exists to work on this priority topic for ageing research, policy and practice within a dynamic research environment.

World-wide the increasing life-expectancy of the population can be considered both a success story in terms of improved health care but equally is placing pressure on existing health systems. There is a consequent focus in policy and practice on frailty and dementia due to their increasing prevalence and impact on the individual’s overall quality of life.

This fully funded University of Bradford studentship will examine how to identify and work with frail older people, and in particular those with cognitive as well as physical frailty. This mixed methods study will be jointly supervised by academics from the world renowned Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, University of Bradford and Bradford Institute for Health Research, and University of Leeds. The successful candidate will be a member of the established Dementia Doctoral Training Centre and the Wolfson Centre for Applied Health Research (a collaboration between the Universities of Bradford, Leeds and Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust). They will therefore benefit from the established excellence within the Centre for Applied Dementia studies as well as being a member of a new interdisciplinary, cross agency applied research initiative, which will provide many opportunities for an ambitious and dedicated individual.

Funding Notes

This is a full time funded studentship awarded through the University of Bradford providing a full Stipend (2019/20 £15,009) and UK/EU fees for 1st October 2019 start.
