Integrated Nonlinear Photonics

School of Engineering & Physical Sciences

Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Advances in fabrication techniques has enabled efficient nonlinear interactions in nanophotonic waveguides with very low pump excitations. Our aim is to explore this rapidly evolving research area in investigating new interactions and developing novel photonic devices. We are seeking a self-motivated student who will acquire a potential experience during the PhD programme in the fields of nonlinear and quantum optics in novel integrated structures. The proposed work will involve theoretical and analytical research, accompanied with extensive numerical simulations. Collaboration with other groups inside and outside the host institution is also a part of the project to demonstrate the theoretical predictions. This is an exciting opportunity to embark on potentially interesting and ground-breaking research within a first-rate institution.

All applicants must have or expect to have a first-class master’s degree or equivalent in Physics or Engineering by Autumn 2024. For international students whom their first language is not English, they should provide an IELTS certificate (or equivalent) within the past 2 years (with score 6.5 or above, and a minimum of 6.0 in each aspect). Selection will be based on academic excellence and research potential. Applicants will be interviewed in-person or via Skype or Teams.
