About the Project

Insurance fraud is a significant problem with has a great cost to consumers and industry. It is estimated that insurance fraud adds an extra £50 to every household’s annual insurance bill. The insurance industry which contributes £25 billion to the UK economy, estimates that it is facing £1.3 billion of detected fraud, with a further £2.1 billion undetected. Due to its seriousness, the Insurance Taskforce has been created to combat the problem by the UK Government. The system proposed in this project is expected to have a great impact on fraud detection. The results from this project can be commercialised. Judging from the statistics, it is predicted that there is a high demand for such system. The partner company in this project works with many small and medium sized insurance companies which will directly benefit from the proposed system.

OBJECTIVES:

To develop a new artificial intelligent technique augmented by a nature inspired algorithm to generate re-balanced insurance fraud data.
To develop a new nature inspired technique to detect insurance fraud trained by the re-balanced data.
To develop human-centred machine learning by creating a new interactive immersive visualisation system to guide the training process.
To evaluate the trained system using simulated and real data.
