About the Project

This project will entail theoretical work on tax and subsidy policies aimed at the improvement of market outcomes. Part of the work may include empirical data analysis to calibrate and simulate the theoretical model and test its predictions. The range of applications is broad. Some examples are international trade, especially in digital goods and services, healthcare, education, and family policies.

For the successful completion of the project, the candidate will need a solid background in micro and macroeconomic theory and a good working knowledge of econometrics and of standard econometric software. Familiarity with MATLAB or similar software for numerical simulations is also highly desirable.

About the supervisor

My current research is in applied microeconomic theory and micro-founded macroeconomics. One of my recent projects was on the role of parenting in the formation of human capital and its effect on macroeconomic outcomes. A PhD proposal could build on this and similar literature to investigate, for example, the effects of parenting on the education and career opportunities of parents, especially mothers.
