Project Description

The successful student would be based at McGill University with Dr. Kyle Elliott and travel for field work to the CNRS in Chize and the Kerguelen Islands (Antarctica) with Dr. Charles-Andre Bost to complete a PhD on the foraging behavior of king penguins under extreme climatic events. They will have access to the long-term database of foraging and demographic behaviour available for penguins at the study site. We encourage applications by email to Dr Kyle Elliott at [Email Address Removed] by 15 November 2019 comprising CV, transcript, cover letter and contact information for 2-3 references. Only citizens of Commonwealth countries will be considered. Preference will be given to individuals with past seabird field work experience, quantitative skills needed for analysis of biologging data, strong writing ability, an MSc or equivalent in seabird field biology, ability to speak French and a willingness and ability to work in remote areas. We appreciate diversity in our research groups, and individuals may self-identify if they are from a group under-represented in STEM fields (such information will be kept confidential and will only be used to increase, not decrease, an applicant’s ranking). John & Pat Warham Studentships are funded by the British Ornithologists’ Union.
