About the Project

Project Outline:

Regular moderate-vigorous physical activity is essential for maintaining health and wellbeing. Despite this, only a third of adults meet the minimum recommendations for physical activity. In an attempt to overcome these problems, the aim of this project is to develop a physical activity intervention, which is feasible and practical for adults and their lifestyle, in collaboration with our partner company ‘Agile in Work’.

What are we looking for?

We seek a determined, motivated scientist with a strong interest in physical activity interventions/exercise training and with experience of working with adults across a range of fitness levels. The successful applicant must also have a passion for cardiovascular physiology and the confidence and ability to learn non-invasive ultrasound assessment of the cardiovascular system. An Undergraduate Honours degree in life sciences, sport and exercise sciences or clinical physiology is required with a minimum classification of a 2.1 and ideally an MSc or equivalent in a relevant area. The candidate must also be able to integrate themselves into our partner company ‘Agile in Work’ and contribute to successful knowledge transfer from the academic to professional business environment. Experience of customer service and customer facing interactions and skills would be beneficial.

Structure of the Programme:

The successful candidate will register as a full-time postgraduate research student at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Under guidance of the supervisory team, the student will initially develop knowledge and practical skills to perform ultrasound assessment of the cardiovascular system and subsequently design the physical activity intervention. Longer term, the student will integrate implementation of assessment techniques and physical activity intervention in the adult population with the dissemination of key findings both academically and within the business environment.
