About This PhD Project

Project Description

In ICT for international development (ICT4D) projects often fail after an initial feasibility study because of a lack of larger-scale project management capability. Lean and agile methods promise approaches to managing technology interventions in Africa, south Asia and south America. By encouraging project teams to focus on a minimum viable product and then scale projects incrementally, agile and lean methods can help reduce risk of project failure. The project will develop a disaster management mobile phone application as a case study, to explore lean and agile development methods. Novel project management methods will be devised and evaluated.

Candidates should have a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree in an area relevant to the subject. In all cases a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification or other evidence of research skills and experience is preferred but not essential.
