Project Description

Leeds United Football Club are providing a fees funded Masters by Research (MRes) place as part of an ongoing relationship between the Carnegie School of Sport and Leeds United Football Club. In this unique opportunity the successful candidate will support the Leeds United Sport Science and Strength and Conditioning Team under the supervision of the Head of Academy and Head of First Team Sport Science. The Award will aim to examine performance questions during the 2019/2020 season.

As part of the application process candidates are expected to develop a research proposal aligned to the project theme. The specific research questions will then be developed between the successful applicant, LUFC sport science staff and the MRes supervisory team.

The role will incorporate assisting with pitch based conditioning sessions with various age groups, completing GPS analysis of academy/first team player performances and collection of performance data. The successful applicants will utilise this performance data to support the completion of their MRes project. Contact time on the MRes and with Leeds United Football Club will be no more than 20 hours per week (this may include work at weekends and during unsociable hours). Leeds United Football Club will contribute a fee bursary to cover full MRes fees and additional contributions to travel expenses will be provided.

In addition to the fees being supported, Leeds United Football Club will provide a number of additional CPD opportunities in conjunction with the clubs own CPD programme, for example at UKSCA workshops. The internship will run from August 2019 to May 2020 with the MRes running until September 2020.
