About the Project

Project title: Lenticular and vitreal light scattering and refraction for tomorrow's eye diagnostics

Institution: Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun

Supervisor: Prof. Ireneusz Grulkowski

Scholarship for 4 years available (ca. 4000 PLN brutto / month). The starting date: December 1st, 2021.

Project description:

The Bio-Optics & Optical Engineering Lab at the Nicolaus Copernicus University invites applications for the PhD student position in a project entitled Lenticular and vitreal light scattering and refraction for tomorrow's eye diagnostics financed by the Foundation for Polish Science (Programme TEAM) from the Smart Growth Operational Programme funds (PO IR) in 2014-2020.

The project aims at the development and clinical validation of novel imaging-based tools to extract spatially resolved information on the light scattering and refraction in the ocular structures and media. The project addresses fundamental challenges regarding non-invasive measurements of the optical properties of ocular structures that form a step change in the paradigm in the diagnostics and treatment of vision-threatening conditions. In particular, we would like to develop SS-OCT system for vitreous imaging.

We offer the conditions enabling fast career development, i.e. work in dynamic research group (Bio-Optics & Optical Engineering Lab), attractive research topic, inspiring atmosphere and international collaborations that are ideal for young researchers to develop their career at best. The Bio-Optics & Optical Engineering Lab at NCU (group leader: I. Grulkowski) specializes in the development of modern optical technologies used to study fundamental problems in biology and medicine, in particular in ophthalmology and visual science.

The city of Torun is also well known from its unique Gothic heritage, local customs and a variety of cultural events and festivals. Join a team of scientists working in collaboration with ophthalmologists on the application of novel imaging modalities in the measurement and diagnosis of optical properties of the structures of the eye!

Employment conditions: 4000 PLN brutto / month scholarship (open till 04.11.2021.)
