About the Project

Brunel University London (BUL) is recruiting to EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) PhD studentships effective 1 October 2020. Applications are invited for the following specific project called “Machine Learning for the Design of Accessible Interactive Systems”.

The successful applicants will join the internationally recognised researchers in the Department of Computer Science. This exciting research project is focused on the development of an adaptive user interface for people with a range of cognitive and physical disabilities (for example, dementia, motor and visual impairments) and will explore the potential of Machine Learning within this area. The project will be pursued in collaboration with an industrial partner, CityMaaS, who specialise in providing AI-driven accessibility solutions for transportation. This research will involve the engagement with users for gathering insight and system evaluation.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate their ability to undertake research applying AI, Machine Learning, or related (e.g., Natural Language Processing) techniques. The successful applicant will be required to apply user-centred methods to design and run user studies.

Please contact Dr Theodora Koulouri at [Email Address Removed] or Professor Steve Counsell at [Email Address Removed] for an informal discussion about the studentships.
