About This PhD Project

Project Description

We have worked with a number of water soluble polymer systems that are capable of encapsulating and solubilising various hydrophobic drug moieties. Current target areas include cancer and anti-prion treatments. For this project, we propose to develop and synthesise a range of macromolecules that contain internal spaces capable of binding a number of different drugs, including large therapeutic molecules. As such, drugs can be solubilized, protected and delivered to specific sites in the body. Once synthesised the binding and release properties of a number of encapsulated drugs will be tested, along with their therapeutic and biological properties. This aspect of the project will be carried out in collaboration with colleagues in medicine and medicinal chemistry.
