Project Description

Tissue-engineering is a interdisciplinary area that offers potential to solve the increasing problem of degenerative diseases. 3D bioprinting has the potential to accelerate this area by creating tissue-engineered structures of defined shape layer by layer with detailed complexity. Biopolymer hydrogels are commonly used as tissue scaffolds. Unfortunately, these biopolymer materials are not conducive to 3D printing. We aim to fully realise the potential of this technique and propose to investigate the physical behaviour of a range of biopolymers that are A) conducive as 3D cell scaffolds and B) are suitable for extrusion based bioprinting.
