If you are an enthusiastic high achieving student looking to undertake a Masters by Research in a vibrant research environment, then join us by applying for a Doctoral Studentship with Carnegie Faculty, in partnership with Equal Adventure Developments Ltd.

Carnegie Faculty brings a fresh and informed perspective to research in sport and exercise science, leisure, events, hospitality, tourism, education and childhood. The quality of our research is evident in the outstanding results achieved in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, where we ranked second nationally when accounting for both research quality and the number of contributing staff (Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism).

The 0.5 (fte) studentship element will evaluate the efficacy of Equal Adventure Development Ltd’s training and equipment through the collection of user feedback and case studies, and will use these to complete a needs assessment for inclusive adventure and active lifestyles with disabled people. This studentship would be ideally suited to a graduate from a Product Evaluation background or closely related area of study.

The mission of Equal Adventure is to inspire and resource outdoor adventure, sport and active lifestyles with disabled people. Equal Adventure is split into two entities, the Equal Adventure Charity and Equal Adventure Developments Ltd. The Charity acts as a socially aware interface between the aspirations of disabled people, and the development of resources and opportunities. Equal Adventure Developments Ltd, designs, develops and sells sports equipment, and provides support services to enable the equipment to be used safely and effectively for active involvement in sport and physical activity with disabled people. It achieves all of this through the delivery of several programmes with a particular focus on adventure sports.

The studentship is based in the beautiful small town of Grantown-on-Spey which is located on the edge of the spectacular Cairngorms National Park which is situated halfway between the Cairngorm and Lecht ski areas. The successful applicant will also have access to the extensive sport and exercise science laboratories, including equipment to support field based research and development in biomechanics, motor control and exercise physiology.

This MRES has the potential to progress to PHD.
