(MCRC Clinical) Creating and annotating a digital pathology atlas for primary and metastatic PDA

Project Description

Project summary:
Creating and annotating a digital pathology atlas for primary and metastatic PDA.
Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDA) is a dismal disease with late detection, limited treatment option and poor outcome. A hallmark of PDA is an extensive desmoplastic reaction where stromal cells, such as immune cells and cancer-associated fibroblasts, provide a pro-tumorigenic environment. While much effort is aimed at targeting the desmoplasia, little is known of the compositional variation across patients and which markers can be optimally used for patient stratification. In this project, we aim to implement workflows for single cell protein analysis of stromal cell populations across patients and will use this to develop a digital (stromal) pathology atlas for patient stratification. Specifically, the fellow will use Cytometry by Time of Flight (CyTOF) to annotate stromal cell populations and integrate this with known patient information. The fellow will be based in a highly collaborative environment across CRUK Manchester Institute, MCRC, Christie Foundation Trust and MFT Foundation Trust and will also collaborate across Precision-Panc.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates must be post-registration clinicians and ideally have a specialist post in a related subject, for example, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology, or primary care. Applicants must have been resident and worked within the EEA (European Economic Area) for at least three years prior to application.

Funding Notes

The clinical fellowships are usually tenable for three years, although in certain circumstances they may be four years duration. We will provide running expenses, an appropriate salary in line with the applicant’s current salary and grade, and full coverage of University PhD fees. Where international student fees are payable, please provide evidence with your application of how the shortfall will be covered (approximately £19,000 per annum).

The length of this project will be FOUR YEARS.
