This project aims to develop Visual Computing and Artificial Intelligence-Based System for the Diagnosis of Infectious keratitis in the Cornea. Infectious keratitis (Acanthamoeba keratitis and fungal keratitis or Fusarium) are devastating eye infections that attack the cornea and can lead to irreversible complications and even blindness. They are difficult to diagnose quickly enough for effective treatment. Successful treatment needs early diagnosis and intervention but accurate and rapid identification of the infectious keratitis and proper management of corneal ulcers are challenging clinical problems.
Our research group has an established track record in developing medical diagnostic technologies, in collaboration with the National Health Service (NHS). This project will build on this collaboration and will deliver, in close collaboration with the NHS, a new computer vision system for process medical eye scans and diagnosing different eye diseases, using advanced medical imaging and machine learning techniques.
