About the Project

This PhD Studentship will examine issues in adult social care for specific groups

An opportunity to conduct much needed research into the complex needs of people who are excluded from services at the point of a mental health crisis, likely to have drug and alcohol misuse/dependency or other mental health conditions. The experiences of those who have been excluded from services (such as accident and emergency departments, liaison psychiatry, crisis resolution and home treatment teams, primary care) and who access social care, will be explored. Mixed methods will be used, including reviewing, in-depth qualitative interviews and online survey. 

Applicants are expected to hold (or about to obtain) a minimum upper second class undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) in social sciences (including criminology, sociology) or social work. A Masters degree in a relevant subject and/or experience in social care/social work is desirable.

Funding Notes

NIHR School for Social Care Research. Studentship funding is for a duration of three years to commence in April 2023 and covers UK tuition fees and an annual stipend £17,050.
