About the Project

This project aims to optimise the laser shock peening process tailored to produce high quality nanostructed metal surface for aerospace and medical applications. This will be achieved via a correlation study of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the nanostructured surfaces produced under a series of laser processing conditions using advanced characterisation techniques. The results will be linked directly to the processing coditions to identify the operation window for desirable properties for various applications.

Funding Notes

This a collaboration project between the University of Birmingham and the Manufacturing Technology Centre and the student needs to start in September/October 2019.
