Project Description

The successful candidate will work with project partners to develop a flood risk model, analyse and model range of potential Natural Flood Management techniques to the catchment areas. For each catchment area you will model potential interventions, evaluate which interventions are likely to deliver the best results and monitor the impacts of the interventions once they’ve been installed. The study will entail evaluation of various potential monitoring arrangements for the purpose of identifying the most viable NFM technique for each situation and will include impact analysis of various NFM methods on the risk of flooding.

Funding Notes

Funded by the Environment Agency (Thames21) for 3 years (36 months) beginning 1st May 2019 or sooner/later by agreement. The successful applicant will receive an annual stipend starting at £17,000 (increasing by £1,000 in years 2 and 3) plus payment of their full time Home/EU tuition fees.

Applicants will have or expect to receive a first degree at 2:1 or above in Mechanical/Civil/Environmental Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or similar engineering related discipline. A Masters degree is an advantage but not essential.

Applicants must be eligible for UK/Home or EU tuition fees.
