Modelling and Simulation of Closed Cycle Gas Turbine for Power Generation using Solar and/or Nuclear Heat Sources

About the Project

To meet the ever increasing energy demand worldwide, closed cycle gas turbine power plants have the potential to complement the conventional coal-fired power plants and the open cycle gas turbine power plants. For heat sources with moderate (up to 1000 °C) temperature such as from concentrated solar power and small modular nuclear reactors, the thermal efficiency in using the open cycle gas turbine power plants will be compromised. This project intends to study how to design different closed cycle power plants (selection of working media such as supercritical CO2, single shaft vs multiple shaft configurations for compressors and turbines) for different heat sources so that the thermal efficiency can be improved at reasonable capital costs.

Funding Notes

Applicants should have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, bioscience or a related technical subject, or have an appropriate MSc qualification.

If English is not your first language then you must have International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) average of 6.5 or above with at least 6.0 in each component.
