Modelling and Simulation of Pyrolysis and Gasification of Biomass and Waste Plastic

Project Description

Biomass is generally viewed as a CO2 neutral energy source. Biomass pyrolysis and gasification can produce syngas. The process conditions of pyrolysis can alter the proportions of gas, solid and liquid products. Pyrolysis technologies are not suitable for all types of wastes. However, waste plastics have great potential for the recovery of high value products from advanced thermal treatment. Pyrolysis and gasification of biomass and waste plastic can be used to produce energy and valued chemicals. This project will investigate the technical routes and operating conditions through process modelling and simulation.

Funding Notes

Applicants should have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, bioscience or a related technical subject, or have an appropriate MSc qualification.

If English is not your first language then you must have International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) average of 6.5 or above with at least 6.0 in each component.
