Applications are invited for our EPSRC funded Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) PhD studentships that will support six (6) research projects starting 1 October 2022. One of these projects is “Molecular Fluid Dynamics - Multiscale Turbulence Modelling” led by Dr Edward Smith in the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering
This exciting research project represents the next generation of fluid-dynamics research through the first ever computational simulation of molecular turbulence. This project will unlock a new research area combining the fundamental physics of molecular motion with engineering fluid dynamics to solve some of the biggest problems facing industry and science. By utilising novel machine learning and data analytical techniques we will ensure these cutting-edge molecular models have direct impact to engineering industry.
You should have an interest in fluid dynamics and your application should demonstrate you 1) can solve complex scientific and engineering problems, 2) have written computer software and 3) have experience in numerical simulation, ideally either Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or Molecular Dynamics (MD). You should be a highly motivated individual and possess a strong sense of curiosity. The ability to study independently and think critically is essential.
