About This PhD Project

Project Description

The Ferrier Research Institute, Victoria University of Wellington

We have an exciting opportunity to undertake research towards a MSc qualification. The project will create new carbohydrate-derived materials for bio-assay testing as medicinal compounds. It builds on our prior work (Org. Lett. 2014, 16, 4543; Org. Biomol. Chem. 2012, 10, 5636). This research programme will expose the successful candidate to various synthesis techniques. There is also the opportunity to work alongside our biology collaborators in some of the bioassay studies.

Candidates with a relevant chemistry degree and an interest in organic chemistry are eligible. Candidates who are motivated, self-starters, have an excellent academic record and who are keen to contribute to synthesis and drug development are urged to apply.

Bradley Williams’s team has worked with Lewis acid catalysts for a number of years, pioneering new applications and unusual reaction chemistry. The project focuses on the use of Lewis acid catalysts in transformations of carbohydrate substrates.

Full stipend of NZ$10,000.

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Rachael Odlin ([email protected]) by for further information. Include your CV and academic transcript.

The position will remain open until filled.
