Project Description

The Neely Group are looking to recruit a student for a PhD project “Nanofluidic devices for studying DNA-protein interactions”. The project will build upon our work to image DNA sequence at the single-molecule level by carrying out these studies using DNA confined in a channel just 100 nm in width. We will investigate the interaction of proteins with DNA in these channels using single-molecule fluorescence imaging. The ideal candidate will be a chemist with some experience of microscopy and the willingness to work across the traditional scientific boundaries.

Funding Notes

A scholarship to cover University fees and provide 36 months maintenance at standard RCUK rates (£14,057 for 2015-16 and expected to rise slightly for 2016-17) is provisionally available for applicants who are UK/EU nationals and hold or obtain a minimum of a good (>65%) upper second class or higher integrated UK masters (MSci/MChem) degree or equivalent in chemistry or a related subject. Students with a combination of a good UK or equivalent BSc degree followed by an MSc with >60% in all taught elements will also qualify.
