Project Description

Synthomer is one of the world’s major suppliers of latices and speciality emulsion polymers that are used to make rubber gloves (e.g., surgical gloves). There is a continual need to improve the mechanical properties of the polymer films that comprise the gloves. In this project a new, environmentally-friendly, approach to preparing the polymer films will be explored. The project will involve nanoparticle preparation and characterisation as well as studies of film formation and mechanical properties. Collaboration with Synthomer scientists and visits to research facilities in Germany and elsewhere will occur during the project. The project will be fully funded for PhD students who are UK or EU nationals.

Funding Notes

Applicants should have or expect to achieve at least a 2.1 honours degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a related discipline.

This project is fully funded by Synthomer UK.
