Nanotechnology for Carbon Neutral Manufacturing
The aim of this project is to harness carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a resource to manufacture fuels and chemicals as well as develop nano catalysis for sustainable chemical and energy processes.
The project involves experimental and/or numerical research in the broad area of catalytic conversion and heterogeneous chemistry with the overall objective of converting CO₂ to a useful product. Applicants must be willing to conduct research in one or more of the following areas:
I. Fundamentals Studies of CO₂ valorisation
a) machine learning for catalyst screening
b) atomic simulations to provide information in step a. above
c) synthesis of new catalyst
d) catalyst characterisation
II. Reaction Engineering of CO₂ valorisation
a) chemical kinetics studies at bench scale
b) process optimisation
c) in-situ reaction studies
d) economic analysis and policy
The scholarship will provide an annual stipend of $35,000 subject to satisfactory academic performance. For outstanding international applicants tuition fees are included for up to 12 research periods (3 years) and satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension of up to two research periods (approx. 6 months).
