Some patients attend general practice much more frequently than others. Our recent work found that the top 10% of the people attending a general practice, use nearly 40% of face-to-face consultations with GPs every year. However, we currently know very little about people who attend frequently.
The candidate will use anonymised GP data and compare the characteristics of people who attend frequently with those who attend less often. He/she will explore how the number of people who attend frequently, and the types of consultations have changed over time, and whether these people are more often admitted in hospitals for cardiovascular disease or cancer (which may have been initially missed by primary care).
