About This PhD Project

Project Description

A PhD student position is currently available for the project “Non-canonical antigen presentation by MHC class II molecules” in the group of Prof. Christian Freund at Freie Universität Berlin. In this project, the role of peptides bound unconventionally to MHC class II molecules and their role for the immune response will be investigated. Mechanistic studies of MHCII peptide loading will be complemented by mass spectrometric analysis of immunopeptidomes. The impact of antigen presentation on T cell responses will be investigated by cell biology methods in combination with FACS analysis and the measurements of cytokine secretion. The antigens to be investigated comprise pathogen- and autoimmune-relevant peptides as well as so-called „neoepitopes“ that originate from mutations of endogenous proteins and that are important for anti-tumor T cell responses. The position can be filled immediately and runs for 3.5 years.

The candidates should have a master degree in biochemistry or related fields and a strong background in protein biochemistry, cellular biochemistry or molecular immunology, which should be evident from their study courses and excellent grades.
