Non—invasive instrumentation development for particle accelerators on the basis of Cherenkov diffraction radiation

Project Description

Cherenkov diffraction radiation appears when a charged particle moves in the vicinity of and parallel to a dielectric interface. The intensity is proportional to the length of the radiator. Non-invasive nature, high intensity and directionality open doors for developing non-destructive instruments for particle accelerators including devices to diagnose beam size, emittance, position, length, direction and arrival time and to generate intense THz radiation beams.

The project is conducted in frame of international collaboration spanning RHUL, Diamond LS and Daresbury Lab (UK), CERN (Switzerland), and KEK: High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (Japan).
