About the Project

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of differentiated B-lymphocytes (plasma cells) that grow in the bone marrow. Despite the development and use of more effective drugs in the treatment of myeloma it remains an incurable disease, given that current treatment regimens are not able to eradicate all tumour cells. Residual disease is likely to be due to the existence of dormant myeloma cells and their protective interactions with the bone marrow stroma. Therefore, in this project we aim to develop novel bone-targeted anti-myeloma therapies to enhance their delivery to the tumour site and increase their efficacy against residual disease.

Funding Notes

Self-funding . Students to pay their own University Fees, Stipend and enhancements costs (lab consumables & conference travel, publications costs etc)

Entry Requirements:
Candidates must have a first or upper second class honors degree or significant research experience. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated, have the ability to think independently, use own initiative, have good communications skills and be well-organized including good time management. Experience in cancer biology, including cell culture and in vivo studies would be desirable but not essential.
