The provision of clean water is a global issue with societal, health, and economic implications. An important challenge is the removal of aromatic solvents and chlorinated compounds, which are very frequent pollutants in both industrial and rural areas, and which are highly toxic.
In this project we aim to develop a new approach to the abatement and degradation of organic pollutants based on heterogeneous catalysts, by using zeolites, or silicate-like matrix for the abatement of organic contaminants via a process known as wet peroxide decomposition.
During this PhD you will tackle the synthesis and testing of metal doped silicates by using an array of different preparation method and protocols. This project involves the following techniques or methods: heterogeneous catalyst synthesis, HPLC, porosimetry and chemisorption methods, XRD and NMR, as well as kinetic studies involving elements of reactor design. The project may also involve collaborations with external institutions.
**Please note this project is for self-funded students**
